| Module 1 All day 5.5 hours plus a lunch break A hands on, interactive technology experience for academic advisors. Particpants will discuss username and password issues which apply to all the applications which will be discussed, establish at least one account, and focus on utilizing the latest web-based technologies including: Blogs-applications such as WordPress will explore the purposes for blogs in academic advising, begin working on a blog, and discuss blog ideas with other participants including portential audience, content, and authors. Wikis as advising knowledgebases-at least one wiki application will be explored by participants. Brief introduction to the wiki as a tool for the management of advising information. Examples of advising wikis will be explored live. learning how to Microblog as in Twitter-various examples of the use of microblogging in academic advising. Opportunities to discuss the place of microblogging in advising. Hands on experience with the power of microblogging tools. Facebook - beyond an introduction to the most prevelant social networking application in higher education. RSS to repurpose your content assessment of your website data using free online analytical tools social bookmarking-its purpose, and the insight it provides into the philosophies inherent in advising and technology demonstration of social media communications planning |
| Module 2 Half day 3 hours what part of the above will be done on day 2? Could it be something that could stand alone in the spirit of the module approach? Perhaps the social media communication planning? (I like this as the 3 hour module) |
| Module 3 Preconference 2 hours This is a separate session aimed at folks who want more of a technology summary with useful takeaways. A potpourri of social media tools will be presented that can be added to anyone's academic advising toolkit. Technologies to be presented include: blogs and microblogs (Twitter), RSS, online surveys, tools for advisor productivity, and wikis. |
